7 Uniquely British Chocolate Brands You Need To Put In Your Cart ASAP
You know we love chocolate here at Consommé and there is always something new popping up on our shelves and social feeds that we just have to try - looking at you here Orange Twirl! But sometimes the generic brand and jumping on the bandwagon just doesn’t satisfy and curb our cravings as much as we like - so, we set out to find something that would. And lucky for you (and us!) we found 7 deliciously unique British brands that go above and beyond the bean and the bar. It was a hard job, but someone had to do it - and Consommé writer Adam was up for the challenge… here’s what he’s loving and what we are stocking up on for the coming months.
You can never have too much chocolate. But sometimes, you can forget what good quality chocolate really is, given how saturated the market is these days - from Cadburys, to… well… Cadburys, it’s far easier for people to pop to their local supermarket and pick something from the shelf rather than hunt down good quality chocolate. But… I promise you - it’s worth doing! But if you don’t want too - I’ve done it for you.
Here I’ve tired some of the most unique British (mainly dark) chocolate products, to prove just how fantastic chocolate really can be and why you should spend a little more time searching so you can spend more time savouring.
The London Botanists - CBD 70% Single Origin Dark Chocolate
This is something truly special. I was always a bit weary of the CBD addition in food but the more you research into it the more you realise that it is perfectly safe and nothing to worry about. However, a lot of the time the addition of CBD is often a gimmick - but not with this chocolate.
Firstly, the chocolate itself is of an extremely high standard, and secondly, the hemp paste gives it this almost spicy, earthy quality. There is, however, a limit of how much you can have - two bars per day - but, seriously, you really wouldn’t want to overdo this, because it’s something you should want to savour. The milk chocolate bar is also very good… but for me, the dark is where it’s at.

Lucocoa Chocolate - 60% Haiti Dark Chocolate
I really like a chocolate that does exactly what it says on the tin (or packet), and this one does just that. It promises a beautifully balanced combination of figs, cherry, caramel and roasted nuts and that’s exactly what you get.
It starts of mellow yet keeps you wondering what you’re eating as the flavour profiles hit you in stages as the bar melts on your palate. I would definitely have this on a cold winter’s night with a glass of red wine and think that’s exactly what I’m going to do tonight.

Duffy’s Chocolate - 70% Guatemala Rio Dulce
This chocolate has a wonderful almost ginger-cake flavour about it, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Described as ‘spicy honey’, this really lends itself to being used in something like a rich dark chocolate lava cake (a frequently baked item in my household!) or if you’re looking for a unique flavour to make your friends and family go ‘oh, that’s different’ than this is the bar for you - and them! Or, you know, keeping it to yourself and just eating it while sitting on the couch watching a film. I won’t judge if you don’t want to share.

Seed and Bean - Lemon and Cardamom; Coconut and Raspberry; Mandarin and Ginger
I tried and I tried, but I honestly couldn’t decide which of these three from Seed and Bean I liked more. They’re all so good, so I had to give them all a mention! Once you try them all, you will understand how difficult the decision was - and why this was the right choice. The flavour combinations across all three bars are perfect and can all be enjoyed however you see fit and are all of a fantastic quality. There’s also a nice touch with the packaging as its all entirely compostable and all organic. These are chocolate bars that I would definitely put the effort in going out to purchase whenever I have a craving.

Rebel Chocolate - Matcha Green Tea Chocolate
Who doesn’t love matcha flavour?! And it goes perfectly with white chocolate! But this, from Rebel, isn’t your typical shop-bought, mass-produced white chocolate - this is smooth, subtle and pretty blooming tasty.
These are also protein chocolate bars but that has zero effect on the flavour - it just tends to make you want more of it and gives it an added boost. It has 3 cups of matcha to 18g of protein so you can be sure you won’t even know there is added protein in there - even better.

Broma Foods - Organic Cacao Drinking Chocolate - Dark; Dark Orange
I have no idea how to describe this product, so bear with me. Its something I had no idea what to think of when I first tasted it, but now I love it.
It is literally a rich chocolate sauce in a bag - but made with the best quality ingredients you’re likely to find anywhere; its not the kind of sauce you could sit and pour down your throat - not that anyone here has ever done that (!) Because it’s so rich - you only need to add a teaspoon or two to whatever you’re eating or drinking to truly appreciate this product.
The orange version is also great, the orange flavouring used in this helps to cut through the richness. An utterly unique and totally brilliant product. Plus, they have just launched a Salted Caramel flavour - which I know my editor can’t wait to try!

Love Cocoa - Avocado 71% Organic Dark Chocolate
It takes a lot to make me lost for words, but this bar did just that. I didn't know what to think when I first heard of avocado chocolate, and honestly I thought it wouldn't be that great and more of a gimmick, but it really is… fan-tas-tic.
It's smooth and subtle, yet punches you in the face by just how perfectly balanced it is. It really is something special, and Love Cocoa have hit on a real winner with this flavour combination.
Sod the smashed avocado. Avocado chocolate is the way forward. You heard it here first.
